Our School

St. Thomas’ Nursery School was founded in 1951 and is one of the oldest and premier nursery schools in the region. At St. Thomas’ Nursery School, we educate children in the Episcopal tradition, nurturing each child’s social, emotional, cognitive and spiritual development. We invest in an award- winning curriculum called Handwriting Without Tears (HWT). This curriculum helps children develop school readiness skills and succeed in handwriting.

We encourage our students to ask questions, to respond to others, to be responsible, to problem-solve, to create, to enjoy books and to actively play. Our specials include chapel, music, and yoga and movement. These experiences help children to conceptualize their world and lay the foundation for sound learning. We provide a loving, supportive, safe and educational environment for preschool children from the ages of 2 yrs old -5 yrs old. We serve children in both the congregation and in the community, and are fortunate to be closely aligned to a large, welcoming Episcopal Church with dynamic ministries for children, youth and young families.

FROM OUR DIRECTOR

I have been part of this wonderful school since 2006, first as a parent and in 2009 as Director of S.T.N.S. I have a deep love for this school and feel blessed each day when I come to work. Our teachers provide a loving and nurturing environment for your child to learn. Our education philosophy is that children learn best through play, while being inspired by nature on our nature playground and new S.T.E.A.M. classroom. We are blessed to be able to utilize our 43 acre campus during our school day. Nature is a powerful teacher and we believe learning in and with nature provides endless possibilities for your children.

We welcome visitors anytime. Admissions begin in January of each year and we encourage you to come visit our school. Come play in our nature playground and experience our new S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) classroom! We believe young children are natural scientists and engineers! This classroom is designed to harness all that natural curiosity, inventiveness, perseverance and creativity to help students explore and learn more about the world around them. It is never too early to start S.T.E.A.M. education! Our outdoor playground creates opportunities for creative and imaginative play.
